Records On Review: Jeffrey Alan Dbury: A Better Sky

This is without a doubt the grooviest Indie solo artist album of 2015. A compilation of 13 very diverse songs that in one CD capture the true essence of rock n' roll in its purist form. Who is this musical genius I speak of you may ask yourself? It is none other than the multi talented singer, songwriter, arranger, musician, producer and engineer, Jeffrey Alan Dbury, with his 8th solo album, entitled "A Better Sky."

A Better Sky sounds like a greatest hits CD, each song gives you a feeling that it is one of your favorite tunes you hear over and over again on that radio station that you just can't turn off. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not an album of 13 catchy pop songs. A Better Sky takes off running in 13 directions musically and somehow brings each tune back into a cohesive collection of hard hitting songs that take you, the listener, from pure rock n' roll, over to some Delta blues, to a gentle love song, on to in your face progressive rock to hard rock, topping it all off with a tasty dash of heavy metal. This is a musical feat that has not been accomplished by too many of today’s Indie artists.

The album begins with what sounds like a low throbbing droan of a Moog synthesizer, pulsating aimlessly in the darkness. Suddenly we hear the screams and yells of adoring fans as the announcer introduces Jeffrey Alan Dbury on the stage, at which point, in an instant, your rock n' roll world is changed with an aprapos album opener, a very hard rocking tune called “Born To Rock”. I dare anyone after only a few notes of this rocker to not be on your feet shaking your ass.

“Clock Strikes Midnight” will fry your senses with an up tempo rock n' roll number that sounds like it belongs playing along with a car chase scene from an action film starring Steve McQueen, which also includes a kick ass lead guitar solo.

“I Just Wanna Be Me” slows things down a bit with a sultry beginning, only to break into heart pumping rocker, with lyrics so groovy that they nearly take over the song.

Up next are two songs joined together in what can only be called Mind blowing in the most seductive way. Starting off with a tune called “The Journey”, Jeffrey gives us our first look at his advanced musical talents as a progressive hard rocker, in which he plays all the instruments. “The Jouncy” is remonstrant of Gentle Giant, P.F.M. And Focus. Prog/Rock segways brilliantly into the title song for his CD, “A Better Sky”, a heavy hitting pop rocker with thought provoking lyrics and a chorus hook that you will have in your head for the rest of the day.

“You're My Suicide Lover” takes you deep into the blues baby, in a sex lyric driven song full of passion and lust. This song is not recommended for the frigid.

The title of this next song says it all, “Shut Up”! Someone has pissed off this rocker and he lyrically is reaming their asshole. “Shut Up” gives you another broad side with this heavy rock n' roller.

“Crazy Over You” is a uptempo pop rock love song with a strong melodic vocal line and meaningful lyrics.

“Everything To Me" shows Jeffrey's talents as a romantic composer of this extraordinary love song. The melody lines are flowing and once again the lyrics touch your heart and let you feel the love that is in his heart.

“If Love Comes Knocking” takes the listener back into an very danceable rocker filled with love and passion.

Jeffrey continues his strong knowledge of the rocker hit single format with “A New World”. Again, like all of the songs on this CD, sounds like hit songs you've been loving for years yet staying completely unique in the Jeffrey Dbury way.

“Keeper Of The Gate” begins very Gothic and moody and then, without warning, jumps right into a of a ball busting heavy metal number that will make your head bounce faster than a $10 hooker sucking off a first time John.

You can't keep Jeffrey away from a pure hard throbbing rock n' roll song for long, and “Hold Out For Tomorrow” is just that. Like all of his tunes, this one once again delivers a super groovy vocal melody line with incredible in your face lyrics.

I am sorry to say that “Hats Off To Rock And Roll” is the final song for this incredible rocker CD. The groovy news is, Jeffrey ends his new album with a balls to the walls hard rocker that reminds you that rock n' roll still rules the world.

So there you have it, a brief look into the latest CD, "A Better Sky" by Jeffrey Alan Dbury. I have to say this is not just another incredible rock n' roll album. This album has raised the bar of what can be produced by a very unique and talented Indie solo artist, giving other rockers something to learn from, and rock music fans to simply love and go loudly out of their minds over.
